Departments are segmentations of a large field for the sake of specialization. These segments allow for distribution of tasks across our staff, and relieve the deputies of the tremendous task of spearheading all the subjects. Each department is assigned to a teacher who will act as the head of department and will be responsible for coordinating the department and envisioning its growth and expansion. Here at BMA, our learning sphere has been divided into several departments that spearhead the different facets of the learning process.

Academics Department
Our academic departments have always been our backbone and we continue to build our students academically. These departments are structured to build our pupils in the various disciplines and to hone their prowess. Our head of departments invest themselves into research and development in their respective fields. Our philosophy is to deliver a curriculum that is enriched with the many aspects of the subject that are relevant to life and to society. Our departments are: English Department, Kiswahili Department, Science Department, Social Studies Department, CRE Department, Home-Science Department, Music Department, Art & Craft Department
Guidance and Counselling Department
At Bishop Mahiaini Academy, we recognize that a child’s academic success is deeply connected to their emotional, social, and mental well-being. Our Guidance and Counselling Department is committed to nurturing well-rounded learners who are equipped to face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.Our team of trained and dedicated counselors works closely with pupils to address a wide range of personal, social, and academic concerns. We offer:

- Career guidance
- Continuous follow-up
Games and Sports Department
Sports offer valuable opportunities to cultivate communication and leadership skills, to work as part of a team, and to develop resilience by learning to meet success and failure head-on. At Bishop Mahiaini Academy, we incorporate various sporting activities to supplement academic learning and nurture well-rounded pupils. The school boasts a spacious playground uniquely designed to support football, netball, volleyball, and basketball. We also have a sanded and safe playground specially designed to accommodate the young learners in our pre-primary section, ensuring safe and age-appropriate play for our youngest pupils. Our school schedule provides ample time for pupils to engage in play and sporting activities, recognizing their role in building discipline, teamwork, physical fitness, and character both on and off the field.
ICT Department
Every academic field relies on technology for its sustenance. In light of this, for our young generation to be at the forefront of game changers, it is of utmost importance that they grow up understanding the intricacies of this very subject. We would not have it any other way at Bishop Mahiaini Academy. Our facility includes a well-equipped computer lab where pupils are introduced to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from an early age. ICT classes are mandatory from Grade One to Grade nine , ensuring every learner builds essential digital skills throughout their academic journey. In addition, our classrooms are equipped with full-time internet connectivity, serving as a valuable tool to enhance and support our pupils’ learning experience.
Music & Drama Department
Music and drama give pupils a platform to express themselves, build confidence, and discover their creative talents. At Bishop Mahiaini Academy, learners take part in singing, instrumental music, drama, poetry, and storytelling, nurturing both individual expression and teamwork.
Our pupils regularly showcase their talents during school events, festivals, and drama competitions, representing BMA with pride and creativity.
